De Snelheid

De Snelheid (1982–1984) is a work by Louis Andriessen that deals with a philosophical matter, just like De Tijd. De Snelheid (Velocity) is about the observation of acceleration and perception of speed in music.

I am certainly not the first to think about speed in music. All the scherzi in the symphonies of the nineteenth century are about speed. In the period from Mozart to Bruckner – and this also applies to the better composers that came after them – the third movement of the symphony became continually faster.
